We had a very successful and fun Scottsdale show! Jumping Jack Flash showed his versatility winning the championship in HA Country Pleasure 60+, and top ten in both driving and show hack! Blazn Star earned the reserve champion prizes in both the HA amateur park and the HA English pleasure 40+ classes. Pensions Guaranty was a rock star winning the championship ribbon in the purebred country 55+ class and reserve champion in the country elite class. His half brother, Defined Benefit, won top ten in the purebred country 60+ class. We are looking forward to showing these wonderful horses at regional shows and US national show through the year!

It seems like US Nationals just happened, but the annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show is just a few weeks away! We’re excited about the show string – our half arabs are ready to go! Jumping Jack Flash BF will be shown in driving, show hack and country english pleasure; Blazn Star in park and english pleasure; and High Spirits in country pleasure. Three of our purebreds will also make the trip. Our Pension 5 year olds will make their Scottsdale debut this year – they will be the first offspring in our breeding program to perform at Scottsdale! Both Defined Benefit DEH and Pensions Guaranty DEH will show in country pleasure. Blazn Star, High Spirits and Defined Benefit will be shown in the open classes, and we hope to bring the lovely Sagesse DEH into the show ring for the first time in the purebred country pleasure novice class. Please look us up if you are at the show!

We Welcome Fancy Afire

Scion Arabians is most excited to have acquired the lovely broodmare, Fancy Afire.  This mare is by Afire Bey V and out of Flame Dancer, a Barbary daughter. Flame Dancer was the grandmother of our mare SV Starlite, and we are thrilled to add a mare with such a great pedigree to our program.  Many thanks to Rakel and Paul Hinshaw for entrusting her to our care.  And many thanks to Dale and Wyona Worthington for enabling us to add her to our herd at their lovely farm, Dana Arabians.

Changes for Scion Arabians

August is typically a less newsworthy month for us but not this year! Three of our mares have now checked in pregnant: SV Starlite to Inception, Showgirl SKF to Afires Heir, and Heirabaska to HA Toskcan Sun! Thank you to Doctor Ernie Grubb for his help in breeding our mares!

Even more noteworthy is the retirement of our friend and horseman extraordinaire, Mike Whelihan, from his training business. Mike’s tutelage and advice have been key to our acquisition of high quality horses, development of show ring skills, and the establishment of our breeding program at Scion Arabians. With his wise input on matching breeding stallions to our mares, the breeding program has really started to bloom. His retirement and return to Canada are bittersweet events for us, but we are very happy for him to be back with his family and watch his grandchildren grow. Yet Mike will remain integral to many of us in the horse business, as a consultant and a friend, and we look forward to his future contributions as a master horseman.

We are also most excited about our transition to our new trainers at Harris Show Horses. Greg Harris and Dani Stock have moved to the Pacific Northwest, and we are pleased to be part of their program. Welcome Greg and Dani to Washington State, and we look forward to going to US Nationals as part of your barn!

2017 Region 4 and Region 5 Show Results

The Scion Arabians show horses had a very good go at both Region 4 and 5 thanks to the great training and preparation from Mike Whelihan and Yvonne Copple. Plus, we had excellent weather at both shows! Jumping Jack Flash took reserve champion in both regional open classes and was champion in the Region 4 AATR elite/choice rider! Showgirl was champion in the AATR elite/choice class and reserve champion in the AAOTR class at Region 4, and she earned top fives in country AATR and AAOTR at Region 5. And one of our four year olds, Pensions Guaranty, took champion in junior horse, reserve champion in futurity and top five in ATR at Region 4 as well as champion in the Region 5 futurity and junior horse classes. Top fives were earned for some classes with Defined Benefit, Showgun, and Blazn Star. Thanks again to the Whelihan Show Horses team for two fun regionals! Looking forward to US Nationals with at least three of our horses!!
