Changes for Scion Arabians

August is typically a less newsworthy month for us but not this year! Three of our mares have now checked in pregnant: SV Starlite to Inception, Showgirl SKF to Afires Heir, and Heirabaska to HA Toskcan Sun! Thank you to Doctor Ernie Grubb for his help in breeding our mares!

Even more noteworthy is the retirement of our friend and horseman extraordinaire, Mike Whelihan, from his training business. Mike’s tutelage and advice have been key to our acquisition of high quality horses, development of show ring skills, and the establishment of our breeding program at Scion Arabians. With his wise input on matching breeding stallions to our mares, the breeding program has really started to bloom. His retirement and return to Canada are bittersweet events for us, but we are very happy for him to be back with his family and watch his grandchildren grow. Yet Mike will remain integral to many of us in the horse business, as a consultant and a friend, and we look forward to his future contributions as a master horseman.

We are also most excited about our transition to our new trainers at Harris Show Horses. Greg Harris and Dani Stock have moved to the Pacific Northwest, and we are pleased to be part of their program. Welcome Greg and Dani to Washington State, and we look forward to going to US Nationals as part of your barn!

2017 Region 4 and Region 5 Show Results

The Scion Arabians show horses had a very good go at both Region 4 and 5 thanks to the great training and preparation from Mike Whelihan and Yvonne Copple. Plus, we had excellent weather at both shows! Jumping Jack Flash took reserve champion in both regional open classes and was champion in the Region 4 AATR elite/choice rider! Showgirl was champion in the AATR elite/choice class and reserve champion in the AAOTR class at Region 4, and she earned top fives in country AATR and AAOTR at Region 5. And one of our four year olds, Pensions Guaranty, took champion in junior horse, reserve champion in futurity and top five in ATR at Region 4 as well as champion in the Region 5 futurity and junior horse classes. Top fives were earned for some classes with Defined Benefit, Showgun, and Blazn Star. Thanks again to the Whelihan Show Horses team for two fun regionals! Looking forward to US Nationals with at least three of our horses!!

Welcome to our fifth and final foal for 2017!  This fine bay colt with four whites socks was born July 19th and is by HA Toskcan Sun out of Heirabaska. He joins two fillies and two other colts as our latest scions. We are very happy with our growing herd!!

Introducing Our 4th Foal of 2017

Welcome to our fourth foal this year. This very handsome colt by HA Toskcan Sun out of SV Starlite arrived on May 21! We are very excited about him and the rest of our foal crop to-date. We love our little scions and expect the fifth and final foal by HA Toskcan Sun out of Heirabaska in late July.

We completed our qualifications for the Region 4 and 5 championship shows and look forward these competitions and the camaraderie! Mike Whelihan and Yvonne Copple have done a great job preparing our horses for these shows and we’re giving them a big shout out for their expertise and training.

Welcome

2017 has been an exciting year for Scion Arabians with three March foals on the ground and two more to come, one in late May and the other late July! Our first foal is a handsome colt (HA Tosckan Sun x Showgirl SKF) with four white socks and a pretty star. The second is a vivacious chestnut filly (Afires Heir x Showgirl SKF) who looks much like her mother. And our third is a pretty, sweet filly (Afires Heir x Sagesse DEH) with two opposing white socks and very cute white face markings. We are very pleased with them and want to thank Dale and Wyona Worthington of Dana Arabians Farms and Dr. Ernie and Gail Grubb for their assistance in foaling and caring for these youngsters.

2017 is also a “coming out” year for our three 4-year-old boys; Pensions Guaranty DEH and Showgun DEH (two Pension x Showgirl SKF geldings) and Defined Benefit DEH (Pension x SV Starlite colt). They went to their first qualifying show in Eugene, OR and behaved as if they’d been showing for years! Whelihan Show Horses has done a wonderful job in training these fine young men and we are most appreciative. High Spirits DEH, Showgirl SKF, and Blazn Star joined them as part of the show string at our first show of the season.

Finally, we’d like to express our sincere appreciation to Rakel Hinshaw, Arabian Synergy, for her professional design and development of this website. We hope you enjoy looking through it and please do revisit our site from time-to-time.
